Growing Empathy Program
In this module, educators define empathy and learn the scientific benefits behind how it enhances trust, safety, and learning. Educators also explore what empathy isn't—learning about "empathy blockers," well-intentioned statements that communicate judgment, and increase their awareness of how often they might be using them.
In this module, educators learn all about the skill of putting yourself in anothers' shoes. They explore the feelings, needs, thoughts, feelings, and values that make up another person's perspective and identify the personal barriers they face to perspective-taking. Finally, educators gain access to a new tool to strengthen their ability to take the perspective of others.
In this module, educators learn how to speak with empathy with the powerful communication skill of mirroring. Mirroring is when we put our understanding of others into
words to show them that we understand. By learning, practicing, and mastering this new skill, educators increase their ability to build relationships founded in safety, trust, belonging and connection.
In this module, educators learn how to create a school or district-wide commitment to empathic care and connection. They are introduced to practice called "stewardship," a peer support system that supports healthy school climate and educator mental health and well-being.
